Collection Report | Diesel Pre-Spring 2010

Recently I was invited to a private showing of the Diesel Pre-Spring 2010 collection and following in suit with the rest of the industry, Diesel has gone back in time for inspiration. While most are going back to mainstream classics like fitted trousers, double-breasting, and bow ties, Diesel tackles it in another manner...and time period, channeling the likes of Mick Jagger, Ozzy Osbourne, Madonna, and other rock 'n roll icons with a range that is in essence...rock 'n roll. Denim remains classic Diesel with great washes while including detailed backside that show the rock influence. Fitting is unlike any we have seen this year, shying away from the straight-legs, slim fits, or skinny jeans and going straight for generic boot cuts. Patterns are there, in everything from hooded vest to casual bottoms, which is a high contrast from pieces in the collection like the detailed blazer or leather outerwear. Knitwear is present, in a minimal capacity, with a certain "I dont give a fuck" attitude while metal embezzled belting continues the ode to rock 'n roll in every way possible. Silhouettes are a far cry from this years usual, yet it is rather generic; and while I think the collection is nothing to get excited about Diesel definitely went in another direction with this one, to much avail and gets my mouth savoring for the S/S 2010 collection. Notable pieces that do catch my interest would include the leather pants, something that is completely unexpected and surprisingly fashion forward, and the double-breasted outerwear which features a penguin tail that can easily be hidden if needed. For all the Washingtonians...think the Black Cat or 9:30 club in the 90's and you will, in essence, understand the collection. And while DC is notably "cool" again, I don't think that era will be making a reprise anytime soon...but wouldn't it be cool just to pretend. More views after the jump.
