Style Icon - Michael Jackson 1959 - 2009

No one can deny the musical genius that is Michael Jackson. Without a doubt the most famous and well known person in the world, the King of Pop is the single most influential person in modern music and has influenced the world with such hits as "Thriller", "Beat It", "Billie Jean" and "We Are the World". Known to make all - from young girls to grown men - faint at his sight, MJ topped the charts with trans-generational and cultural hits and his gravity defying dance moves. His appearance is one of the most recognizable - and evolving - in the world and he garnered much criticism about it. With all of the controversy that surrounded him, he will forever live on in memory as a creative and musical god. For me, he will also live on as a style icon. Known for his sparkle, one gloved hand, hats, and militaristic jackets, he without a doubt had a style that was his own, and he remained true to it. From the red leather motorcycle jacket he rocked in the “Beat It” video; the white ankle socks, black fedora and black loafers he wore when he moonwalked to the aviator sunglasses he toured in during the “Thriller”and the white v-neck he always seemed to strip down to while onstage. Years since, he continues to inspire through that unique style that was his own. Even Balmain sent a Jackson inspired military jacket down the runway for spring 2009, being worn by celebrities like Beyoncé Knowles and Rihanna. And his music will always remain staple soundtrack for runways and homes alike throughout the world. Need we say it but, Long Live the King. More pictures after the jump.
