At first glance, it looks as though Frankie Morello may have taken some inspiration from a mixture of Twilight and Harry Potter for their A/W 2009 collection full of velvet filled suits, capes, and fun pieces but with more examination, could it be that they have taken inspiration from our new President, Barack Obama, and the change that is taking place in Washington?
With all the change - casual Fridays - that President Obama has implemented since his inauguration, Washington has become a much more lax place to live and work. While such fashions that are included in the Frankie Morello A/W 2009 collection may never be acceptable on Capitol Hill or the White House by staffers during work hours, could this collection be a sign that work wear, in general, may be changing, allowing for Americans to truly express themselves via their wardrobe choices instead of the usual black or blue suit? I think so. Walk through the campus of Howard University and you will see such suits and pieces on a regular, and majority of those students also intern throughout the district wearing just those clothes.
While Washington may not be known for its fashion acceptance, perhaps this collection featuring tons of unique pieces that accompany a suit wonderfully - an assortment of cool jackets, sweaters with accentric designs, and shorts accompanied by blazers - is a sign that Washington is truly the new New York City...or cooler.
