This past weekend was Prom here in Washington, DC. For those not from the Metropolitan area, Prom refers to the White House Correspondents Association Dinner. Other than the noticeably long name, we refer to it as Prom because, like your high school prom, it is essentially a snooze fest followed by sponsored after-parties that are nothing but fun. Im sure there is no need to explain to you all why this year's dinner received an extraordinary amount of attention and, due to our new neighbors in the big White House up the hill, it was the most exciting and glamorous thing to come to this town since...well, the Inauguration.
While it was reported that the recession would put a bit of a damper on things this year, I noticed none of it and due to the "celebrity attention" it turned out to be the most fun Prom that Ive partook.
This year I was able to attend a few of the parties pertaining to the dinner. Starting on Thursday, the party began. I had the opportunity to attend the Creative Coalition’s dinner. More intimate that probably most of the other parties, it was a fun mix of Hollywood types such as Tim Daly, Dana Delany, Rachel Leigh Cook, Barry Levinson, Alfre Woodard, Matthew Settle and a few others. Enjoyable in the fact that, you could actually sit back and talk to one another.
Next up, Friday, I attended the People/Time magazine party at the St. Regis. Featuring an extremely cool vibe, the party seemed to start the minute Meghan McCain came through the door. Others on the guest list included Ann Compton, Ed Henry, Chris Matthews, Ludacris, Kerry Washington, Ed Westwick, and Fonzworth Bentley. Ludacris was overheard saying, “I really love it here. It’s a different style than L.A.” Could a move to DC be in the works?
Saturday, the big day of the actual Prom, featured the best after-parties...but not before the White House Correspondence Association Dinner - which I did not attend. All the celebrity big names in town where in tow along with the POTUS and FLOTUS. The coolest and most fun after party had to be the Capitol File after party, which I had the priveledge to attend. Anyone who was anyone was in attendance including Meghan McCain, Ludacris, Kerry Washington, Eva Longoria-Parker, Jason Wu, Valerie Jarrett, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, and much much more.
And while I was not there, Michael Feldman, CAA Agent Michael Kives and Philippe Reines hosted their now traditional After After party last night at Feldman's, with guests Bon Jovi, Elizabeth Banks, Rashida Jones, Jon Favreau, Savannah Guthrie, Joe Lockhart, BJ Novak, Huma Abedin and Anthony Weiner til 5 a.m.
Fun, fun, fun. And that people, is why we love Prom here in the District. Until next year.
