Collection Report | Wood Wood S/S 2010

Though Copenhagen is far from our nation's capital, their annual Copenhagen Fashion Week is still very much on our radar. During their week of fashion oriented events, Wood Wood debuted their S/S 2010 collection and while the collection delivers on a fashion front, practicality...not so much. While the collection consist of trousers, jeans, knitwear, jackets, and sweaters - traditional menswear, no doubt - we have to remember that this is a spring/summer collection. While knitwear isn't entirely appropriate for summer, this begs the question as to whether seasonal distinguishing clothing is becoming a thing of the past. But all that aside, the Danish brand mixed typical American sportswear with a very preppy style to create this classic collection of European flair with American construction. While the color palette is very much toned down, we can't hope but have our eyes livened up with the gladiator footwear present. Seems as if the Danish are all confused, mixing knitwear with sandals and American sportswear with European flair...and while I am a bit flabbergasted I cant help but think it all works. Trend Report | Jersey Blazer

Who would have thought we would come across another Blazigan again? Well we haven't, but we have come across something pretty darn close. Newcomer Giles Deacon has recently launched his own label after working with Bottega Veneta and Gucci and it seems his training has payed off with his Jersey Blazer. Very similar to the Lanvin Cardigan/Blazer, it features a cool and classic blazer designer, lapels intact, with an interesting mix...jersey material. Exuding eccentricity from all corners, the jacket is the perfect mix of formal and casual wear and seems to be appropriate for just about anything. Many designers have been featuring blazers in unusual materials, do we sense a trend? Only time will tell. The Giles Deacon Jersey Blazer is available Here.

Preview Report | Jil Sanders x Uniqlo

A little while ago it was announced that Jil Sander and Uniqlo would be collaborating for a menswear collection, and much to our delight we are getting a small preview of what is to come. Consisting of basics that are given an even more basic twist, we are shown blazers that are quality driven, knitwear, outerwear, and trousers. With a bland color palette, the collection seems to deliver on an avant-garde manner, without being avant-garde...weird, I know. While this is just a preview, I expect the rest of the collection to follow suit with traditional pieces in lackluster colors. More views...

Collection Report | Diesel Pre-Spring 2010

Recently I was invited to a private showing of the Diesel Pre-Spring 2010 collection and following in suit with the rest of the industry, Diesel has gone back in time for inspiration. While most are going back to mainstream classics like fitted trousers, double-breasting, and bow ties, Diesel tackles it in another manner...and time period, channeling the likes of Mick Jagger, Ozzy Osbourne, Madonna, and other rock 'n roll icons with a range that is in essence...rock 'n roll. Denim remains classic Diesel with great washes while including detailed backside that show the rock influence. Fitting is unlike any we have seen this year, shying away from the straight-legs, slim fits, or skinny jeans and going straight for generic boot cuts. Patterns are there, in everything from hooded vest to casual bottoms, which is a high contrast from pieces in the collection like the detailed blazer or leather outerwear. Knitwear is present, in a minimal capacity, with a certain "I dont give a fuck" attitude while metal embezzled belting continues the ode to rock 'n roll in every way possible. Silhouettes are a far cry from this years usual, yet it is rather generic; and while I think the collection is nothing to get excited about Diesel definitely went in another direction with this one, to much avail and gets my mouth savoring for the S/S 2010 collection. Notable pieces that do catch my interest would include the leather pants, something that is completely unexpected and surprisingly fashion forward, and the double-breasted outerwear which features a penguin tail that can easily be hidden if needed. For all the Washingtonians...think the Black Cat or 9:30 club in the 90's and you will, in essence, understand the collection. And while DC is notably "cool" again, I don't think that era will be making a reprise anytime soon...but wouldn't it be cool just to pretend. More views after the jump.

Editors Letter

FIRST THINGS FIRST:
You may notice that things on kiD GQ look a bit different from this time last week. We've shaken things up a bit by changing the banner - I get bored quite easily. Expect minor changes to continue as we will remain true to making kiD GQ the best for you, our readers. While things may look different, the content is just as great as ever and we will remain the same in that extent by bringing the men of DC the best that style and fashion has to offer. This week kiD GQ will bring you all that we can, which includes another post on 10 Essentials. We have been working quite hard and am bringing the 10 Essentials feature on kiD GQ permanently. Every month, expect a new fashion blogger offering up their bare essentials that they cant, and wont, live without. Furthermore, expect an amazing interview, or two, to keep you all occupied as things may get a little quiet while I take a much needed vacation to Miami on Thursday. Until then, continue visiting as we are, and remain as DC's Premier Men's Fashion Blog.

Accessories Report | Masakage Tanno Wood Business Card Cases

One area that I am sure no one has thought off to include in their fashions...business cards. While in DC a business card is just as common as an ID, in theory their holders are rather generic and limited to metal casings - with initials engraved if you really styling. Time to up the ante now that we have come across Masakage Tanno wooden business card holder. Far different from anything I've ever seen before, it is made of Japanese Oak or Padouk with a magnet embedded to keep those business cards of yours safe and dry. With great detailing, its hard to believe that this is simply a card holder. And available for the reasonable price of $85, we can't think of a better item to be your next purchase. Currently sold out, Merhcant4 is slated to get another shipment of these delicious devils late August. Time to save up. More views...
