In much anticipation Phillip Lim showed his first stand-alone menswear line, widening his clientele and introducing his brand to an entirely new audience. A familiar route this Spring 2010 season, Lim contrast casual pieces with those of formality - resulting in a big mixing pot of pure fashion genius. Sophistication is always present and although Lim's collection mixes sophistication with indie, the collection delivers in the time that it exist in...where sophistication is no longer a requirement nor commonplace. Trousers and suiting shorts are topped with thin knits and other relaxed pieces that provide much room for growth and usability. Silhouettes take a classic approach and while there are a few pieces that border the realm of "too cool for school", the collection is one that is realistic, wearable, and stylish. Lim's creativity seems to flourish from the bottom - footwear - but with standards set at this level you can bet the bottom is the least of his worries.
