Collection Report | Francisco Vanbenthum S/S 09

Dutch fashion designer Francisco Vanbenthum has set out to change menswear with his own vision, and it is clearly seen and appreciated in his S/S 09 collection. Appropriately titled 'Radiant', the collection is inspired by scenes from the classic “Lawrence of Arabia.” Taking ancient looks from the Middle East, he has modernized them in a way seldom done. Included in the collection are suits, coats, shorts, and knits, and complement with footwear and accessories all of which alter proportions to the male physique. With a colour palette that includes desert sandy orange, Mediterranean blues, white and black and lightweight linens of cotton, poplins, crispy nylon, coated silk and summer wools, the collection is constant with giving off the essence of the hot and dry desert. And with such a distinct inspiration, he somehow makes a practical collection that even still shows much of its ancestry. A designer to look out for is an understatement. THE designer to look out for is more appropriate.
